importance of Philosophy in our yoga practice and teaching Can't Post

A group of certified Iyengar yoga teachers in the Netherlands is regularly meeting up in what we have titled as soup&chat meetings. These meetings - hosted on a rota shift at members of the Dutch Iyengar yoga association premises - has Philosophy as a recurrent subject in the meetings agenda where lectures or open discussions on Philosophy are held.

During one of our last meetings our Yoga philosphy teacher Sumati has posed us the following question:

How does, according to you, the study of Yoga philosophy affect your yoga practice and teaching?

We would like to kindly ask you all to provide us with your personal answer to the above question.

You don't need to be a Yoga teacher to respond as this we are very interested in knowing from you how does the study of Yoga philosophy affect your yoga practice as well.

Looking forward to reading your eventual resposes to this very important question.
Namaste'

I believe that yoga is a practice of liberation, and that obstacles to liberation begin in the mind. Studying yoga philosophy helps me to unearth these mental obstacles that operate as a belief system of which I am not usually aware.
