Buddhism and Yoga Can't Post

I recently received a comment from someone who said that Buddhist meditation and practicing yoga are not compatible. I really do not see why this would be so. Your thoughts?

Re: Buddhism and Yoga [In reply to] Can't Post

Language is made of labels and when we observe the meanings we associate with them to flow we are able to select what is good as a means of determining the path we are on. That flow and those choices and that path are the life you make; just as these words are a part of the flow and path and life here. You choose what is compatible for you from whatever perspective and sources of knowledge that you seek or come by you. Buddhist meditation and yoga are both good sources of knowledge so observing them both will enhance you and help you appreciate them both.

Re: Buddhism and Yoga [In reply to] Can't Post

Being a Buddhist and a yoga practitioner, I believe that practicing Buddhist meditation while also practicing yoga benefits me.

However, it is useful to know that both Buddhism and yoga grew up in India, that there can be notable differences in the philosophies of yoga and the philosophies of Buddhism, and that there are sometimes intense conflicts between the respective practitioners.

There may come a time when you find that the philosophy of Buddhist meditation and the philosophy of yoga are in conflict. But it seems to me that even within a single belief system there are contradictions and unresolved questions. If you are able to conclude that the way you approach your spiritual practice continues to be beneficial to you and the world, then the unresolved questions are not so much of a problem but a challenge.
