Hello, Thanks for responding. I read in the new Iyengar book (Yoga:The Path to Holistic Health) that sitting up high on blankets to do Dandasana and forward bends should be avoided by people with varicous veins, for example. It was just mentioned under the cautions, I believe, but it made me curious about what other types of variations could irritate the problem. Since the problem comes from overworked veins that are trying to pump blood back to the heart, inversions must be helpful, since they reverse the direction and decrease the work, and virasana is also supposed to be excellent. (I fear that the problem is also just simply genetic). I am not sure if the standing poses increase the chance of developing more varicous veins, but in theory it does seem possible. I have incorporated the session from Iyengar's new book that is for varicous veins into my weekly practice. I try to do it once a week.I figure that then I am helping out those tired veins on a regular basis, and that should help to balance out work from poses that create stress for the problem. I 'd be happy to hear more about what you know or find out in regards to this problem. Also, if anyone else has advice, I am all ears. Nameste. michellet
