Shoulder Pain Can't Post

Hello

I,m so glad I found this forum, this is my first time here. I hoping someone can give me some advice. I being doing power Yoga (Baron Baptist) for three years suddenly one day in the afternoon my left shoulder started to ache (no yoga was done that day) at 2am it woke me up. The pain was so intense I went to emergency where the shot me up with an antinflamatory and gave me tylenol 3. three days later I was back to normal. Three weeks later same thing happened with my right shoulder but even worse, it was unbearable and back to emerg this time another shot and sent me home with antinflamtories and PERCODET. I,ve be lucky all my life and have never had to take anything more then an advil here and there. I consider myself fit , I,m a competative rower, , I run or cycle three to 4 days a week , and do yoga somtimes as much as 5 days a week. I can't give up my yoga it has improve every aspect of my life. I keep going over and over in my head what is causing this this I,ve been fine for three years. The doc at the EE says bursitis, I'm going to my MD tomoroow to try to get some ansewrs and help. Can anyone share some insight but please don,t tell me I have to go to gentle yoga its the sweating anerobic challenge that I thrive and need to acheive medeitation in motion. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you

I would suggest that you see a physician who specializes in orthopedics and sports medicine.

If you want a recipe for disaster, keep telling yourself that your yoga practice MUST take a certain form, and that if it doesn't take that form then you will CERTAINLY fail.

Don't let yourself get hung up on the form.

Excessive overuse of incorrect Chaturanga is probably the culprit. I wouldn't recommend you do too many Chaturanga until you find out exactly what the problem is and then perhaps to go a Senior Iyengar teacher and explain to him/her your problem and see if they can help you. Good luck.

Thank you Kevin

Yes through the process of elimation I think I,ve narrowed it down to chataranga and possibly postures similar to table top.
My shoulder is still on the mend so I,m still being gentle, I found that the table top posture gets a ( slight pain) reaction from my shoulder as well as chataranga. In regards to chataranga I think this may have been a blessing in disguisee it mde me realize I,m placing way to much stress on my shoulders. Unfortunatly where I live there are no real experience yoga teachers, so I read and reread the techniques.. thanks again Ashtanga
