ILIO TIBIAL BAND SYNDROME Can't Post

I am having problems with the ilio tibial band (a wide, flat ligament that runs down the side of the thigh from the side of the hip --iliac crest-- to the lateral part of the bone, just below the knee --tibia--) of my right leg. I have pain in my left buttock as well as in the exterior lateral side of my knee when I practice. I also have pain in the same part of my knee when I drive for a long time. It is supposed to be quite common, but I don't know how to treat it. Specially I would like to know how should I focus my practice to heal it up. I usually have problems with standing poses (only one side). I would appreciate any suggestions or articles regarding this injure (I have heard that is pretty common among dancers) Thank you.

If I were you I would go to a physiotherapist. If you find a good one, they can really help you because they have specific knowledge helping injuries. I have had problems with ligaments in my wrists, and my yoga teacher could not locate the exact problem and give me specific exercises to help it, even though he has a lot of knowledge about the body etc. Hope that helps.

Smile I think that this ilio tibial band syndrome can hidden a low back problem with a kind of sciatica.(the buttocks pain ) . For somebody who practice yoga like you consult a physiotherapist certified in mcKenzie therapie. There is many poses close to yoga and it will be good to know what exercices you have to do for the moment and if the back is maybe the root of the problem.
