Looking for feedback- reaction to block pranayama

One on my students had an interesting response to a practice of Pranayama in one of my classes. Toward the end of class I instructed students into a block support Pranayama. One block under shoulderblades lifting the heart (at the 2nd highest height), and the other block under the head - (highest height). Head fully supported chin moving toward chest. Legs were straight. Ujjayi breath, brief pause on both the inhalation and exhalation. Student background: The student does not have high blood pressure, however his is about 30-40 pounds overweight and has a family history of HBP. This is the email I got from him the following day: So it can have some interesting effects, afterwards, right? Am I right in thinking it can create space to "process" something, say for instance fatigue or fighting off a cold? After practice today I went from being calm, to being very hungry, to being cranky later in the afternoon, to being really fatigued. I took a nap at one point. I think the fatigue was the most profound and strange thing. Last night and this morning I felt like I was fighting off a cold. Now the cold is nowhere in evidence. Sometimes when I've had my doubts about practicing because I felt I was coming down with something, I would go anyway and feel better later. So it's not strange to stave off a cold. Getting the fatigue on through, like waiting for a slow moving freight so you can cross the tracks was what was really strange. The only reason I ask these questions at all was that after all this, I started reading The Yoga of Breath by Richard Rosen, so it occurred to me this could be new territory. I think I'm okay, I'm certainly not alarmed or anything. I just wondered if it was reasonable to experience something new, particularly something one can't quite put words around. Does anyone have any feedback regarding my student's experience? Has similar experiences happened to any of your students? My background: 20 year asana practice, 5 year pranayama practice, train with Iyengar teachers, and I have been teaching 4 years. Thanks for any feedback you may have. Om shanti, Roberta
